Walk with me, will you?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
A quarter-pasang up the boardwalk from the piers lies the Merchant District, where the freshly-painted sign of the Serpents' Temptation catches your eye.
---
Pushing open the heavy, iron-banded door, your eyes quickly adjust to the light, and you find yourself inside a comfortable Tavern and Inn, where the cheerful crackling of the fire in the large hearths on either end of the room bids you make yourself welcome!
---
To either side of the heavy wooden door are pegs, plentiful and convenient, for hanging cloaks, etc. Directly to the rear of the building are three heavy doors, similar to the one you've just walked through. The Office is in the center, where private business matters may be discussed, accounts reconciled, and so on. To the left are the private quarters of Axel Caden, Tavern Trainer, and to the right of the office is the door to the private chambers of Lady Solveig, Proprietress of the Serpents' Temptation.
---
An elegant staircase spirals upstairs just outside the office, leading to the Guest Rooms upstairs. Six comfortable rooms, each with a small hearth, are available for a reasonable fee. Copper bathing-tubs are available as well, and can be fetched by a slave, should a Guest wish to rinse away the dust of Their travels.
---
To the left, a relaxed seating area beckons. Trestle tables and benches are arranged around the outer walls, and at the far ends of one table rest two beautifully carved wooden chairs, imported from a steading far to the North, where Axel and Lady Solveig may be seen taking their ease. In the center of the room are several low tables, with furs scattered about them, softening the hardwood floors which are waxed by the slaves weekly, for those who prefer to lounge there. Each table has a small lamp resting on its surface, the brass inlaid with silver, gleaming brightly.
---
In the corner of the room, a small sand pit is arranged for dancing, with lamps in adjustable chains which can be raised or lowered, as needed. At one side of the pit is a tall, smooth-sanded pole, with a few pairs of slave bracelets hung from a finely-wrought hook. Rings have been welded to sturdy iron brackets at various heights, suitable for attaching slaves, for various reasons. Next to the sands, but not quite touching, a pale circle has been inlaid into the wooden floor, the bleached colour striking in its contrast.
---
Along the left wall, three small doors lead to the Alcoves. One of the doors is ajar, and soft furs can be glimpsed through the opening. Small chests in each alcove contain various accoutrements which might be useful for those who spend time within. Lamps rest in small alcoves, providing plenty of light, and heavy rings are affixed to the walls and floor in strategic locations, as well. Another door leads to the Kennels, where there is room for both the girls who are the property of the Tavern, as well as boarding for the property of Guests, should they wish.
---
To the right, where the larger of the two fireplaces dominates the outside wall, is the kitchen area. A large array of cooking vessels is arranged on hooks hung from the ceiling, and a counter spans several ah-ils against the wall, with shelves above for drinking and serving vessels, and racks below for trays and larger items. A deep, double basin sink dominates a portion of the counter, plenty large enough to scrub any of the large roasting pans, or even a small whole tarsk prior to roasting! Lady Solveig has extensive trading interests, and a wide variety of food and drink is available for the pleasure of the Guests. Wine racks line the wall next to the counter, and casks of mead and ale rest on their stands, ready to dispense their contents.
---
A small door leads to the cold storage which, as is traditional in the North, is a room outside the main structure. The room is slightly sunken, and contains, in addition to foodstuffs, an aqueduct which provides fresh, cold water. Large blocks of ice are against the outside walls, coated in wood shavings to insulate them, and large grates beneath them collect the slowly melting water which is drained to the gardens behind the Tavern proper, the private space of the Proprietors...
